In Memoriam: Danette Mossman-Tucker

I’ve been intending to write this post for quite awhile, and now I shall at least attempt a beginning…

I was missing Danette more yesterday than ever before, remembering a woman who was not only my relative by marriage, but my longtime dear friend and true “big sister.”  She completely opened up her heart to me with sincerity and warmth, just because I was her brother’s new wife.

It didn’t take long for us to discover that we were kindred spirits, with similar backgrounds and scads of mutual interests.  While neither of us was perfect, we truly grew a bond that weathered some awful life storms, and saw the best in each other even when we were exasperated with some of the worst — and I very much miss her laughter and wisdom and perspective and companionship.

Danette was the only member of the family, on either side, who was present for the birth of all three of my children.  Kevin wasn’t even attendant at Aislynn’s birth, due to a misunderstanding about the emergency surgery, so Danette was the first person besides medical personnel to hold our Dolly.

To be continued…

2 Corinthians 12:9

The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church that the Lord had told him “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

I’m often grateful that my weakness means a manifestation of His strength is imminent.

Some smiles I’ll share

A few weeks ago I received this letter; the end result of which, is that Kisa has two dog boys coming to visit her soon.  She would be ecstatic if she understood what we’ve been telling her about it, as she LOVES them.

Dear Aunt Tammi and Uncle Kevin,

Our Mommy and Daddy are going out of town _______ and they are not taking us with them. They said something about it being their 10th wedding anniversary blah, blah, blah… so we wanted to know if we could come stay at your house with Kisa for the weekend? We know Uncle Kevin will love all over us and let us sit on his lap all of the time so we figure your house is a good place to be. Even though Kisa scares us sometimes we know we would become happy cousins soon and Uncle Kevin will keep us safe. (Can you believe they found a place for Ashlynne and Jenna to go but not us – the outrage of it all!!)

Please let us know – we think it is simply horrible that Mommy and Daddy are leaving us behind.

Sincerely, Bentley and Charlie Culpepper

Having slept most of the afternoon, Brendon was bored late Sunday night.  He took a series of “bored” pictures and made a photo album on Facebook.  Celeste wrote the following review and sent him some fan mail.

‘Just want to say I’m a big fan of the “Bored” series of photographs by up-and-comer Brendon Mossman.  His work has a style and pathos which is so true to the title.  I am especially moved by “Bored With a Chain.”  I eagerly await his next offering.’

This past weekend

Weather — gorgeous, cool and breezy, we were all outside last night.  When we got back from yardwork and a family walk, I asked Kevin, “aren’t you glad we did that instead of waiting until tomorrow night?”  He said “no.”  I said, “but you enjoyed it and were smiling most of the time!”  He said, “I could have enjoyed that time and smiled inside.”  Sometimes he reminds me of Monk — “Ugh, I have Nature on me!”

Kids — Brendon, broken thumb; Zander, fine; Aislynn, delighted that two pairs of earrings sold for her new business which she calls “Big Cat Designs” by A.C.M.

School — I couldn’t be happier with the progress of things, but Zander thinks he can read, write, add/subtract/multiply/divide and knows lots of history and science and thus shouldn’t need any more education.

Upcoming Life– visiting family on beef trip to Missouri, first week in October.  And I will be the mother of a teenager on October 1st.
